Telecom Package's second reading: "A balanced package"

"The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) welcomes today’s vote of the European Parliament at second reading on the Telecom Package, as it confirms Parliament’s earlier strong commitment to dynamic spectrum management and audiences’ access to broadcasters’ digital services.
Jean Réveillon, Director General, EBU said “Public broadcasters want to ensure the best possible access to their services for audiences. The EBU and its members will therefore contribute to an effective implementation of the important principles of the new Telecom Package."

EBU urges Members to actively discuss UHF's future

The EBU is strongly urging its members to take an active part in their national discussions about the future use of the UHF broadcast bands. In Europe, a number of countries including France, Germany, Switzerland, and (potentially) the UK have decided, after the switchover from analogue to digital, to remove part of the current UHF broadcast bands, and use the spectrum for 'IMT' services, which will most likely be wireless broadband internet, either via digital telephone connection or 'WiMax'.
Other nations are now turning to take decisions on the same issues. These administrations must base their decision on sound technical and economic advice; and, most of all, on the public interest, since ultimately the spectrum is a public resource.

APWPT signs Letter of Understanding with the ECC, Brussels / Nuremberg, 18th September 2009

The ECC (European Communication Committee) and the APWPT (Association of Professional Wireless Production Technologies) signed an agreement on a close working relationship in order to assist the regulatory process in the European Union. Both organizations recognize the need to exchange information and seek, to the extent possible, a common European approach concerning the use of radio frequencies particularly in the field of PMSE (Program Making and Special Events).
„We are pleased to take part in the regulatory process needed to assure that the PMSE Industry can continue producing high quality live entertainment to the benefit of all European citizens“ says Matthias Fehr, chairman of APWPT.
