Verschiedene Prognosen sagen, dass die Handynutzung und der Datenverkehr übers Mobilfunknetz zwischen 2012 und 2020 stark zunehmen werden. Nur durch die Bereitstellung neuer Mobilfunkfrequenzen kann dieser Zunahme nicht entsprochen werden. Long Term Evolution (LTE) ist eine leistungsfähige Mobilfunktechnologie, die dem Bedürfnis nach mehr Kapazität im Mobilfunk entsprechen kann. Einige Mobilfunkbetreiber in der Schweiz haben bereits LTE-Tests durchgeführt; eine Auktion der Mobilfunkfrequenzen stellt Frequenzbänder bereit, die für diese Technologie geeignet sind. Dass LTE in der Schweiz von der Mobilfunk-Kundschaft genutzt werden kann, ist absehbar. Wann dies konkret der Fall sein wird, ist aber noch offen.

Various forecasts predict that the use of mobile phones and data traffic over the mobile network will increase markedly between 2012 and 2020. This growth cannot be handled merely by providing new mobile radio frequencies. Long Term Evolution (LTE) is a powerful mobile radio technology that can meet the need for greater capacity in mobile communications. Some mobile operators have already carried out LTE trials in Switzerland; an auction of mobile spectrum will provide frequency bands which are suitable for this technology. Is it foreseeable that it will be possible for the mobile customer base in Switzerland to use LTE. When this will actually happen, however, remains an open question.

D'après les prévisions, l'utilisation du téléphone portable et le trafic des données sur le réseau mobile connaîtront une croissance exponentielle entre 2012 et 2020. La seule mise à disposition de nouvelles fréquences de téléphonie mobile ne permettra pas de faire face à cette hausse. Le LTE (Long Term Evolution) est une technologie de téléphonie mobile susceptible de satisfaire aux besoins en capacités supplémentaires. En Suisse, certains exploitants ont déjà réalisé des tests LTE; une adjudication des fréquences de téléphonie mobile met à disposition les bandes de fréquence adéquates pour cette technologie. Les usagers auront bientôt la possibilité de recourir au LTE, mais on ne peut pas encore dire quand exactement.

Stando alle previsioni, l'utilizzo del telefono cellulare e il traffico dati sulla rete mobile subirà un'impennata tra il 2012 e il 2020. Questo aumento non può essere affrontato con la sola messa a disposizione di nuove frequenze per la telefonia mobile. L'LTE (Long Term Evolution) è una tecnologia mobile estremamente performante e suscettibile di soddisfare il fabbisogno di capacità supplementari. In Svizzera, alcuni esercenti hanno già effettuato dei test LTE. Un'asta per l'attribuzione delle frequenze di telefonia mobile mette a disposizione le bande di frequenza idonee per tale tecnologia. Prima o poi in Svizzera gli utenti avranno la possibilità di ricorrere all'LTE, ma per il momento non è ancora dato sapere quando.
